Berkley’s Story
Berkley was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome while in utero. She had her first heart surgery at the Norwood just 3 days after birth and her second open heart surgery, which was a failed left ventricle recruitment, at another OHS, the Glenn. She has had test after test, numerous scans, and countless blood draws. She was on ECMO twice after her left ventricle recruitment surgery, was inpatient for over 5 months of her life, had paralyzed vocal cords, feeding issues, and a G tube placement at 6 weeks. She is currently on oxygen until the next and hopefully last stage of her cardiac surgery journey. She is the strongest little girl we have ever met, and we are proud of her every single day.
