How to Brew AeroPress Coffee

Prepare Your Coffee & Water

AeroPress Coffee Boiling Water

First, you need to bring seven ounces of water to a boil. If your kettle has a temperature gauge, you should aim for around 200°F. If it doesn’t have a temperature gauge, you’ll want to let the water sit for roughly ninety seconds off the heat source to reach the ideal temperature for AeroPress brewing.

Next, measure 15-16 grams of ground coffee for every seven-ounce cup you plan to brew. Make sure that your coffee is ground to a medium-fine consistency.

Rinse Your Filter

Place the filter in the AeroPress cap and slowly pour hot water, so it flows through the filter. You can then dispose of the rinse water and attach the filter cap (with the filter in place) to the AeroPress brewing chamber.

Prepare the Brewing Chamber and Add the Coffee Grounds

Place the AeroPress brewing chamber on your cup and add the coffee grounds. Make sure you don’t spill any coffee grounds on the AeroPress seal!

Start the Timer and Add Some Water

Start your timer and pour an ounce or so of water over the grounds using a circular pour pattern. You’ll want to ensure that you cover the coffee grounds evenly. Once the grounds are soaked, let the coffee bloom for about 30 seconds.

Pour In the Remaining Water

Pour the rest of your hot water until you reach the fourth line. Then stir the mixture about ten times and let the grounds soak and brew for two minutes.

Attach the Plunger and Push Down

Slowly push the plunger down. Remember that there will be 30 pounds of pressure, so your downward push should require some effort. Continue pushing until you hear the hissing sound. When you hear the hissing sound, all the water has gone through the filter and is now in your cup.

Enjoy

You’re all set if you’re bold enough to drink black coffee. If that isn’t your style, add hot water to make an Americano or hot milk for a latte. If you’re in the mood for iced coffee, you can do that too!
